Seminar über Schleifengruppen und ihre Anwendungen in Geometrie und Physik
Borkum, 18.-23. Juni 2006
Organisatoren:
Christian Becker (Potsdam), Konrad Waldorf (Hamburg), Anna Wienhard (Basel, z.Z. Princeton)
Abstract:
Das Seminar richtet sich an fortgeschrittene
Studenten, Doktoranden und Post-Doktoranden mit Arbeitsgebiet
Differentialgeometrie oder mathematische Physik. Wir wollen die
Struktur- und Darstellungstheorie von Schleifengruppen sowie deren
Anwendungen in Geometrie und theoretischer Physik (insb. konforme
Feldtheorie) zusammen studieren. Die Vorträge werden von den
Teilnehmern des Blockseminars gehalten.

Hyperbolic Operators on Lorentzian Manifolds and Quantization
Wien, November 10 - 12, 2005
Organisatoren:
Christian Bär (Potsdam), Helga Baum (Berlin), Klaus Fredenhagen (Hamburg)
Abstract:
The workshop will bring together
mathematicians interested in geometric and analytic aspects of
hyperbolic operators on Lorentzian manifolds and physicists
working in quantum field theory on curved spacetimes. The aim is to
discuss recent results and open problems in the field.

Smooth Fibre Bundles and Higher Torsion Invariants
Göttingen, September 1 - 7, 2003
Organisatoren:
Ulrich Bunke (Göttingen), Sebastian Goette (Regensburg), Thomas Schick (Göttingen)
Abstract:
In this workshop, we investigate the
topology of homeomorphism and diffeomorphism groups of manifolds. Given
a topological fibre bundle of smooth manifolds,
we ask if the bundle admits differentiable structures, and how many
different such structures exist. To this end, we will introduce and
study Riemann-Roch
theorems for flat vector bundles and different versions of torsion
invariants for families of smooth manifolds. There are three major
approaches to this
topic, based on algebraic K-theory, Morse theory and on heat kernels.
The workshops aims to give concise introductions to the different
flavors of higher torsion invariants for smooth fiber bundles, and
cumilate in some of the
important applications. It is aimed at Graduate Students who want to
learn about this interesting subject, and also on experts in one of the
fields, who want
to learn more about the complementary approaches and the connections
between them.
The workshop will lead to the point where one can follow the talks of
the miniconference about recent and ongoing research about higher
torsion and related
questions.

Transformation Groups, Holonomy and Spinors in pseudo-Riemannian Geometry
Berlin, September 23 - 25, 2003
Organisatoren:
H. Baum (Berlin), I. Kath (Götttingen), T.Leistner (Berlin), T. Neukirchner (Berlin)
Abstract:
The aim of the workshop is to discuss recent
results and open problems concerning pseudo-Riemannian (in particular
Lorentzian) manifolds with special holonomy,
special group actions and special homogeneous structures. Furthermore,
we are interested in links between these structures and solutions of
differential
equations occuring in Geometry and Physics.

Positive scalar curvature and related topics
LMU München, 24-28 February 2004
Organisatoren:
Bernhard Hanke (LMU München), Joachim Lohkamp (Augsburg), Thomas Schick (Göttingen)
Abstract:
The aim of this conference is to bring
together people from diverse fields, including topology, geometry and
analysis - in order to discuss recent results,
but also to give an overview of the subject. In this way, we enable
also younger mathematicians to get in contact with experts in the
field.
